Luke 11:27-28
And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!” But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
Beloved,
We all have different yardsticks for measuring the blessing of God in our lives. Unfortunately, we do not have too many teaching priests to clarify the matter for the church. Now, my generation defines blessings after physical things like the building houses, the acquisition of new and fancy clothing, and other mundane things. We are engrossed in that mindset, forgetting that anything physical is subject to change and ultimately futile.
Jesus simplified the ambiguity that we have associated with His blessing. In verse 28 of Luke chapter 11, He said it is the man that hears and keeps God’s word that is blessed. That is the most trusted yardstick for measuring the blessing. If Jesus came, died, and resurrected only to get us physical things and earthly kingdoms, those would not really be worthy of His death, would they? He should not have to die to get you a car or a shirt. Much more than all those things is the real blessing that comes with conscious, deliberate and intelligent interaction with the word of God. It is time we stop reducing the worth of redemption to physical things; redemption is worth much more.
I commend you to God and to the word of His grace.
I call you BLESSED. I call you NATIONS.
