Mark 10:13-14 NKJV
Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.
Beloved,
It’s so disturbing how many children, even children of some ministers, who don’t want to worship the God of their fathers. Eli was a prophet who heard and served the Lord. Yet, his own two sons chose an alternative lifestyle (1 Samuel 2). It is important that every Christian parent understand that they cannot afford to be passive when it comes to raising Godly children. If you are not intentional, if you are not careful, the devil will find any opportunity you make available to him to discredit your salvation and turn the hearts of children away from God and their inheritance in Him.
Ephesians 6:4 KJV
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
How do we provoke our children to wrath? Through our inconsistencies. There are many sincere believers who have developed a habit of hypocritical behavior and language without even realizing it. But you know who will always realize it? Our children. Do not allow the devil to help your children draw conclusions about your faith and your God. Our opening scripture warns us very clearly not to forbid or keep our children from enjoying the presence and inheritance of Jesus. How do we forbid our children from coming to the Lord? Here are a few ways:
- When we ourselves don’t come to the Lord. If we go to CNN, the doctor, friends, social media, internet, fortune cookies, and everywhere but the WORD and PRESENCE of God for answers, or go to those places first and treat God as a last resort, what does that communicate to our children? How will we tell them Jesus is the answer, but they only ever see us ask Google and Siri. God will help us in Jesus’ name.
- Another way we forbid them from coming to Jesus is when we don’t do all we can to get them into God’s presence. By all, I mean ALL. Many believers don’t make their children attend church. “I don’t want to pressure them. I want it to be their choice.” Or “She is too young to understand”. Meanwhile they can understand song lyrics, gaming codes, and how to unlock your phone before the age of 5. Don’t let Satan deceive you. While you don’t want to pressure your child, the devil is using media, music, and even the school systems to do so. You’ve been warned. We will look at some other ways tomorrow.
