DO NOT YIELD – Part 5: From Sin’s Grip to God’s Grace

Joshua 1:1‭-‬2 TPT
And after Moses, Yahweh’s servant, died Yahweh spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ faithful assistant and said, “My servant Moses is dead. Now get up! Prepare to cross the Jordan River, you and all the people. Lead them into the land that I am giving to the Israelites.

Beloved,
To continue our discussion on maximizing divine encounters, let’s talk about Joshua, the son of Nun and Moses’ faithful assistant. Joshua qualified himself for his later assignment of Moses’ successor because of the right attitude he had towards His encounters with God through Moses. In Exodus 17:10, he was commanded by Moses who was commanded by God to go fight the Amalekites; and he obeyed without questioning.

In another encounter recorded in Numbers 13:1-2, Moses chose Joshua as one of the twelve spies to go to the land of Canaan. Before he sent them out, Moses did something that will distinguish this young man for the rest of his life and ministry. Moses prophetically changed his name from Hoshea (Save) to Joshua (Yahweh is salvation), Numbers 13:16. Moses’ action was not ordinary or random but was a prophetic and significant spiritual transaction which brought Joshua into divine alignment with his destiny. Moses could not have done that for just anyone. He had a legal ground to do this because of their relationship and Joshua’s continued yieldedness and acceptance of it. It could only occur because Moses was an authorized leader and father in destiny.

Of the twelve spies, only Joshua and Caleb made it into the Promised Land. What if he had trivialized his small beginnings as Moses’ assistant? What if he had cut corners during his discipleship trainings? What if he had outrightly refused the name change or questioned Moses’s authority to change the name given to him by his parents? His life would have followed a different trajectory. However, Joshua was discerning and sensitive to the move of God for him. He responded correctly to divine encounter through his acceptance of that significant change which meant he officially submitted to the leadership of the man of God, Moses as God’s representative.

Joshua continued an upward journey as Moses assistant, serving diligently and faithfully, till he succeeded Moses after his death. Our opening scripture was the first time scripture noted God spoke directly to Joshua and this was after the death of Moses. Notice that God’s instruction to him was to keep following the commandments Moses, Joshua 1:7 TPT.

The lesson here is that submission to training is a major way of having and maximizing divine encounters. You must take your destiny trainings seriously. Remember neither Moses nor Joshua knew that it was Joshua that will lead the Israelites to possess the Promised Land, but God knew. Prepare through the divine assignments given to you in your local church because a nation might have to depend on you.

I commend you to God and to the word of His grace.

I call you blessed. I call you NATIONS.
