1 Timothy 6:17
“Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.”
Beloved,
It should not be the case that by the time God blesses us with ideas and resources and grace to make wealth, all we have to show for it is what we cant take with us or speak for us on our judgement day. If we are not careful to put a structure in place, we can easily fall into a trap of greed or what I call an ‘impoverished mindset’ — that is a mindset that magnifies memories and fear of poverty over the magnificence of God and His kingdom and a glorious future reigning with Him. When people have an impoverished mindset and some money, their priority will always be to exalt their current state over their relationship with the One who helped them to make the money. The man with one talent is a prime example of such:
Matthew 25:25
“And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’”
Jesus goes on to chastise and warn us about how we steward our money. Apostle Paul reminds us of Jesus’ standard for us as His people when he says the following to the church:
Acts 20:35
“I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’’
Beloved, stop holding on to what can never sustain you or freely give you anything beyond what you can work or pay for. I will leave us with this scripture:
Luke 6:38
“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”
I commend you to God and the Word of His Grace. I call you blessed and nations.
