Luke 22:54
…But Peter followed at a distance.
Beloved,
One of the powerful instructions of the Master is “follow”. The first order you respond to after giving your life to Jesus is the order to follow. Jesus does not require a change of dress or demand a change of lifestyle first of all; He demands you to follow Him. Why? When you follow you become the exact image of God and that is the ultimate of living. Remember, He says “…Follow me and I will make you…” (Matthew 4:19).
Now, it is not just enough that we follow, we must follow Him according to the specification. We must follow Him closely. We must follow to place our feet on His footprints before we miss His steps. We must avoid Peter syndrome who at some point in time in his walk with God started following Jesus from afar. The danger behind following Jesus from afar is that we are susceptible to trials and errors of life. Fulfilling negative prophecies is inevitable when we follow from afar.
There are many believers today that have been caught up with Peter Syndrome. They are born again BUT we can hardly see it in their daily lifestyle. We hardly see them identifying with the sound teaching of the word of God. We hardly see them stand to defend the faith delivered to them. Their position is neither hot nor cold, and that is a dangerous position because it does not have a place in the kingdom.
Today, I am calling you back to true followership. When you do not stand for something, you will fall for anything. Stand for Christ.
I commend you to God, and to the word of His grace.
I call you BLESSED. I call you NATIONS.
