He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
Beloved,
Just as John the Baptist was sent as a fore-runner, so are Christians sent to reveal Jesus to men. We are raised to be examples of believers. We must know Jesus truly and be dead to self in order to represent Jesus well. If you are not dead to self, you will find out that you are occasionally stealing the show from Jesus. You will be at loggerheads with God unconsciously if your flesh is still active as a Christian. The flesh does not automatically surrender to the Spirit of God. You must retrain and unlearn in order to empower your spirit that is being controlled by the Holy Spirit to take charge of your soul and flesh.
If you are anointed, you may face the temptation of pretending to be the light or being the solution that people are waiting for. Mind you, Jesus is the answer for the whole world. You are only a channel that must lead men to the ultimate answer, Jesus. Learn to carefully communicate who you are to your friends, family, followers, and church members without taking the place of Jesus. In order not to miss it, you must consciously reduce and let Jesus increase as you walk with Him.
Finally, are you happy to be a witness of the Light? Do you find yourself stealing the show and enjoying the accolades of men? Be careful and amend before it is too late. Recondition your heart and learn to consciously direct the attention of men to Jesus!
