Then Jesus came to them and said, “All power in heaven and on earth is given to me. So go and make followers of all people in the world. Baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Beloved,
As we celebrate this Resurrection Sunday, I will share something I have noticed. You will see the imagery of Jesus weakly hanging on the cross, beaten. We see this image of Him hanging around the necks of people as if that is how the story ended. My Bible says this:
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8, NKJV
I’m not sure if you understand the kind of strength it takes to willingly die on another’s behalf, especially when they are as undeserving as we were. But even apart from that, the Bible explains to us the following:
For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God
1 Corinthians 1:18
and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might
Ephesians 1:19
… but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God
1 Corinthians 1:24
Beloved, the God we serve is not a weak God. He is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah (Revelations 5:5). In fact, not only is He mighty, He saved you with all of His might (Zephaniah 3:17). He sent His Power to earth in human flesh, not only to save us, but to empower us. The God we serve is not a weakling. Because He is not weak, you, too, are not a weakling. Even in your weakest you are strong because He is at work on your behalf! To God be the glory. As we celebrate this season, worship Jesus as the Lord, God Almighty and enjoy Him as He fights for you and strengthens you. Happy Easter!
