DO NOT YIELD – Part 5: From Sin’s Grip to God’s Grace

Mark 10:13‭-‬14 NKJV
Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.

Beloved,
We are called to bring our children up in the fear and admonition of the Lord. Many people feel that taking their children to church and ensuring they attend Sunday School will do the job. While those are important, know that Jesus Christ, the Living Word, is not loose with His words. You must be intentional about rearing your children to love the God of your salvation. Many parents provoke their children to the point of having no interest in the God of their fathers. I mentioned a few of the ways parents accomplish this in the last post. Let’s look at a few more ways.

  • Double standard living. The Bible says this about our Creator:

Proverbs 20:23 NLT
The LORD detests double standards; he is not pleased by dishonest scales.

Beloved, your children are not stupid. Generally speaking, they can tell when things are not adding up. You cannot serve two masters and think your children will just know the right way to go, no! If Jesus is your Savior and Lord, it should be clearly indicated in your priorities, your language, and your habits. If your life is not as worship-, faith-, and word-filled on Monday as it is on Sunday, your children are learning that since you don’t genuinely fear the Lord, they should not have to either.

  • Another mistake some parents and guardians make is assuming that children are too young. Jesus was 12 years old when He understood His assignment. It’s amazing how many parents keep children busy with YouTube and snacks in church while they, the parents are worshipping. They do this because they hold the rationale that children are just children and won’t understand. Beloved, if your one year old can interact with electronics, they can do much more. The average mother can testify that babies begin hearing in the womb. Don’t wait until problems come to start exposing them to God’s Word. By then, it’s already late. Don’t assume they’re too young. May God give you the grace and wisdom to start with them on time.

I commend you to God and to the word of His grace.

I call you blessed. I call you NATIONS.
