“It’s better to be wise than strong; intelligence outranks muscle any day. Strategic planning is the key to warfare; to win, you need a lot of good counsel.”
Beloved,
Have the right attitude to wise counsel. Spend time with the wise and you will be wise. Patience and understanding will draw out from the wealth of counsel in such people. If problems are recycled in your life, it may be because you have rejected wise counsel at some point in time before. Let’s look at 3 places one can expect to find counsel:
- A true friend:
Proverbs 27:9: “Do not forsake your own friend or your father’s friend, nor go to your brother’s house in the day of your calamity; Better is a neighbor nearby than a brother far away,”
This type of counsel comes from a genuine heart, a heart that wants something good for you. It is not coming with an ulterior motive but to genuinely help you reexamine your choices and decisions. People can offer counsel to you based on their past experiences when they see you mirroring the bad choices they made in the past that led them into a ditch.
- Professional, Experienced People: A classic example of this was the counsel Jethro gave to Moses to not overwork himself but to get like-minded people who will partner with him in the discharge of his duties. (Exodus 18)
- God’s ordained, sent servants: Isaiah 44:26a “…That confirmeth the word of His servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers… “. God reveals things to His anointed ones. This is the truth. However, every called man is not sent to you (1 Kings 13:11-34). Make sure you know your God ordained pastor and assigned leaders. Know who God has sent to guide you on your journey and do not heed the advisement of strangers.
Let every counsel you take pass through these tests:
- It must have explanation from God’s word, and it must be consistent with the word.
- It must be consistent with the voice of the Holy Spirit in your heart.
- It must be consistent with your God ordained destiny and the path God designed for you to take.
We will talk more on this next time. Until then, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace.
I call you blessed. I call you NATIONS.
