Mark 8:35 AMPC
“For whoever wants to save his [higher, spiritual, eternal] life, will lose it [the lower, natural, temporal life which is lived only on earth]; and whoever gives up his life [which is lived only on earth] for My sake and the Gospel’s will save it [his higher, spiritual life in the eternal kingdom of God].”
You have heard that God has made you the head and not the tail. (Deuteronomy 28:13). I’m sure you have even proclaimed it. But I must ask you if what is in your heart matches what is on your tongue. Your life does not have to be limited! You are truly called to a life beyond limits, a higher life!
A HIGHER LIFE is a spiritually-inclined life. You can’t be bound by the limits of your flesh when your spirit man is strong. But a lower life is a flesh-inclined life. Romans 8:1-2 is a gentle reminder that when you choose to live a lower life, you choose a life that is governed by your flesh and that is automatically condemned.
A higher life minds the things of the Spirit while a lower life only minds earthly things- that means it only sees what’s right in front of it. It dwells on what’s behind and does not have any clue about what is ahead. It is always running the risk of misinterpreting things because it can’t see beyond surface level. Mark 8:33 tells the story of how Jesus was giving his disciples a heads up about things to come. Peter heard him loud and clear, but he could only hear at the surface, limiting his understanding. He responded emotionally, and Jesus, who was speaking to him by the Spirit, had to rebuke the devil that was speaking through Peter. The interesting thing about it is that Peter did not even realize it!
Can you imagine being a mouth piece for Satan and having no idea. Sadly, Peter case is not so unique. It happens often and perhaps has happened to you that you were not sensitive enough to know what was at work in you or with you or for you. Not knowing the aforementioned limits the quality of your life for sure. Don’t be lesser than God intended for you. Make the decision to draw closer to the Holy Spirit and subscribe to higher living today.
