The Power of Choice
Then Lot chose for himself
Genesis 13:11, NKJV
Beloved,
The ability to choose is one of the most essential and divine powers that God has bestowed upon mankind. In Joshua 24:15, we see the instance of Joshua giving the Israelites the opportunity to choose between serving God and serving other gods. With all the risk involved, why give them the choice?
I believe God gives us the opportunity to make choices so that we may enjoy the empowerment of free will. And as great as this is, we must always take caution never to fall into a habit of placing more value on our choices than on the choices God has made concerning our destiny.
When Lot chose to take residence in the land of Sodom and Gomorrah, he chose to bear the consequence of losing everything. As much as God gives you the free will to make your choices in life, you must be conscious of the fact that God wants you to live a life of total dependence on Him. When you decide to make choices without respect for His opinion, you risk living a lifetime of regret.
Choices such as career path, where to reside, and who to marry are examples of areas in life where many people make decisions casually and end up reaping the bitter consequences. A number of unhappily married people can tell you that had they known better, they would have chosen differently.
When I hear people say they can’t handle the pressure or control their attitude when it comes to choices, I hear people who are saying that they are ready to face unforeseen negative consequences.
It is time to reduce the amount of regret in your life by trusting the Lord to help you make your choices based on His plan and not your own.
I commend you to God and to the word of His grace.
I call you blessed. I call you NATIONS.
