DO NOT YIELD – Part 5: From Sin’s Grip to God’s Grace

Genesis 4:6

So, the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”

Beloved,

Anger is an emotion that puts a limit on people in life. It is an emotion you must tame and have control over as you enter into the new year. Many times it is not about the person that gets us angry, it is about the reason for the anger. The devil also comes along to help us shift focus from what caused that emotion of anger to the personality responsible for that reaction. If we take the time to find out the cause of the anger, we will discover the answer and won’t see the need to be angry or upset.

When you get angry, sin is around the corner and its desire is to have you. Anger in itself is not a sin, but it is a doorway to sin and most of the time, you can’t stop that sin from occurring if you are unable to handle the emotion of anger properly. At the time God spoke to Cain, he was simply angry but had not sinned. God showed him that if he allowed that anger to remain, sin is inevitable. But because he couldn’t rule over it, sin came in eventually.

Search the scriptures and you will find that anger is associated mostly with God. This is because He alone can display that anger and will not sin. God designed the expression of anger to not lead to sin but most of the time we allow it to lead to sin, Psalm 4:4.

How do you handle being angry without sinning? The best way is to steer clear of anger itself. The Bible says offense will come, the understanding of this will allow you to give people room to make mistakes and be human. Let there be a caution in your spirit that you don’t want to remain too long in the state of anger. If you practice getting angry as a habit then you can’t stop it from happening when someone or something upset you. Ultimately, you will end up setting yourself up for regret in life.

Beloved, things and people will get you angry in the coming year. When that happens, learn to walk away to get your mind and your spirit back in control.

I commit you to God and to the word of His grace.

I call you NATIONS. I call you blessed.
