Hebrews 5:8-9, NLT
Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him.
Beloved,
Jesus is the author of salvation. From the verses above, we are made to understand that Jesus was able to save all of humanity, not only because of Who He was, but because he “learned obedience from the things he suffered”. It’s amazing how people equate obedience with weakness. However, it was the obedience of Jesus Christ that qualified Him to become the source of eternal salvation. Do you understand how mighty one must be to bring salvation to all of humanity? In fact, let us take a moment to recognize every dimensions of salvation that Christ, alone was mighty enough to bring to us. What did He save us from?
The first is sin. The Bible says this:
He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
I John 3:8, NKJV
He came with all power and might to destroy sin- the terrible work of the devil. To God be the glory!
In His might, He also saved us from the law of sin and death (John 3:16-18). He was strong enough to die for the entire world, and because in His might, He was truly sinless, He bore the right to destroy sin and death all together. His work on the cross allowed us the opportunity to be completely free from condemnation and to enjoy eternal life.
He also saved us from the wrath to come that is talked about in Romans 5:6-9 and the “second death” where we would have been judged and sentenced to death forever according to Hebrews 9:26-28, AMPC.
Finally, and the one I must buttress today, as we reflect on the holy day we just enjoyed, only our Lord, Jesus is mighty enough to save us from this present evil age (Galatians 1:3-4).
You don’t even need to watch the news to know the evil that surrounds us daily. You, yourself know the temptations you now face or once faced on a regular basis. The Bible tells us in Romans 10:9-10 that we only need to confess with our mouth to be saved- specifically, those of us who have chosen to be obedient to Christ.
Beloved, we have established Jesus as mighty to save, the reality is that if you choose to accept Christ as your Lord and Savior, you, too, with Christ at work in you is mighty to overcome sin, death, hell, and this evil age. Obedience to God and His Word don’t make you weak. It is your might. Know this and know salvation forever.
