Philippians 3:12-13 KJV
[12] Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. [13] Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
Beloved,
The word “apprehend” means to lay hold of or take possession of something or someone. It connotes the idea of winning someone over or physically seizing or arresting someone. I provide these meanings of the word so that you may get the full import of the verses above. As a believer, know that you have been apprehended by Christ.
The peculiarity of apprehension is that it is an action done with a specific purpose in mind. Every believer was apprehended for a major purpose which they must be wise enough to find out before it is too late. The plan of God is that you apprehend that for which you were apprehended. How can you do this? To apprehend what you were apprehended for:
- Identify the purpose behind your apprehension.
- Come to peace with what you were apprehended. Stop struggling with your Maker, Isaiah 45:9.
- Once you know why Christ laid hold of you, start doing the work attached to that purpose.
- Know that when it comes to apprehending, we do not arrive per se; we press on. Be like Paul; forget those things which are behind and keep reaching for what is ahead.
I commend you to God and to the word of His grace.
I call you blessed. I call you NATIONS.
