I John 1:1-3 NKJV
[1] That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life— [2] the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us— [3] that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.
Developing Conviction I
Beloved,
It is not just the truth a person knows that sets him free. It is the truth that a man knows, understands, is convinced of, and acts upon as needed that sets a man free, John 8:32. It is a tragedy for a believer to be swayed off his belief. Unfortunately, this often happens when there is no conviction, Galatians 1:6-9. So let’s learn how to develop conviction or what I call roots of truth.
To develop roots of truth, identify the sources of truth and consciously connect yourself to them. While the act of doing this may feel dogmatic, you are not. Sources of truth include
• The word of God, Psalm 119:160.
• The Holy Spirit, John 16:12-13.
• The house of God, 1 Timothy 3:15.
• A teaching priest, Jeremiah 3:15.
• Your regenerated spirit, 1 Corinthians 2:10, 16.
You should also beware of some things that pose as sources of truth when they are not. The following often present themselves as truths, but they are not:
• Facts that are not synced with the truth.
• The past.
• Human philosophy, Colossians 2:8.
• Emotions.
• People’s opinions.
Be careful not to fall for them.
Next time, we will look at other steps to take to develop conviction.
I commend you to God and to the word of His grace.
I call you blessed. I call you NATIONS.
