Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
Beloved,
We have been talking about the will of God for the past few days and have learned about how God communicates His will to men. Now, let’s talk about the manifestation of the will of God on the earth so we can know how to align ourselves with His will.
The will of God is mostly done when the will of man agrees with or yields to the will of God. When this occurs, God will be glorified and man will be rewarded. This was Mary’s experience when she yielded her will to the perfect plan of God for Jesus to be born, Luke 1:38. Jesus also submitted to the will of the Father in Luke 22:42-43.
On rare occasions, God enforces His will in spite of man’s refusal to submit or yield to His will. In such a situation, God is glorified but man loses his reward. An example of such was Jonah. God still saved the people of Nineveh through Jonah even though he delayed in accepting the assignment and demonstrated over and over that he was not on board with God’s plan for the city. He did not get the reward he could have gotten, but God was still glorified. Do not be like Jonah.
In exceptional cases, man resists God’s will and God yields to him. Here, God will still be glorified, but man will face the consequences. An example was when the children of Israel asked God for a king to rule over them so they could be like neighboring nations. Though it was not God’s will for them, God granted their petition, but they faced the result eventually. Don’t go your own way; submit to His will for you. You cannot do better than God’s will for your life.
