II Kings 2:24
So, he turned around and looked at them, and pronounced a curse on them in the name of the Lord. And two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths.
Beloved,
A curse is a negative declaration made by a man who is under the influence of a demon spirit over another man to reset his life to follow a negative direction. The one who places a curse oftentimes has direct authority over the one who is cursed, as seen in Genesis 35:17-18. Examples of this are parents, guardians, or bosses. Alternatively, as seen from our text, Elisha had some backing in the realm of the spirit; he was under the influence or authority of the spirit of God. In this case, the one who places a curse doesn’t have to have a direct authority over the one cursed. The centurion understood this concept clearly.
The reason why I encourage Christians to be under God and to be identified with a local church is so they can be properly under the right authority. Because no matter the physical position you occupy, if you are not under any authority, whatever blessing you pronounce may not stick. For example, as a parent, the blessing you pronounce on your children may not come to pass because there is no power backing your word to bring it into effect.
Yet someone physically insignificant but spiritually under the control of demons may come to veto your blessing with a curse and it will stick. The devil knows that if he can succeed in moving a Christian into rebellion, such a Christian will be powerless against him.
I ask you, what system of authority are you under? Once a man is not under an authority, he cannot bless, nor can he curse. The man who is able to successfully curse another can either be an unbeliever or he can be born again. But he has to be under the right authority.
I commend you to God and to the word of His grace.
I call you BLESSED. I call you NATIONS.
