Luke 7:37-38
And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil.
Beloved,
Two characters worth comparing in this story are the pharisee that invited Jesus to dinner, and the “sinful” woman. Notice that the lady in this story did not ask for permission before she started ministering to Jesus. The pharisee did nothing beyond offering an invite to Jesus which was accepted. Then, the Bible shifted its focus from him to the woman, whose name we don’t even know.
This woman, regardless of what people knew about her started ministering to Jesus in the best way she knew to minister. Luke 7:39 tells us about the contemplations in the heart of the pharisee who invited Jesus. He reasoned that if Jesus was indeed a prophet, he would know the identity of the woman.
Jesus, knowing the thoughts of this man called out his name, asking for permission to say something. The pharisee responded by saying, “Teacher, say it.” This alone lets us know that Simon the pharisee only accepted Jesus as a teacher but not as a Prophet.
As has been previously established, the levels of relationship we have with God differs from one person to the other. Some may know Him simply as God, while some know Him as not only God, but as Father also. Yet, some go even further to know Him as Lord. Beloved, know the Lord, that you may worship him acceptably.
I commend you to God and to the word of His grace.
I call you BLESSED. I call you NATIONS.
