Numbers 22:9
Then God came to Balaam and said, “Who are these men with you?” –
Every association brings joining, and every joining determines a unique kind of experience. One of the questions that every believer must regularly ask is “who are these men with me?” Do I know them by the Spirit or by my head? Why are they around? What would they contribute to my life and what would I contribute to theirs? The reason for all these questions is that you will be automatically joined to whomever you allow around you. You will soon manifest their spirit and end up like them if their spirit is stronger than yours.
Jonathan had two options: to either join himself with David who he knew the fulfillment of prophecy was attached to, or to join himself with his father who he knew had been rejected by God. However, just like it happens to many believers, he allowed emotions to set in and he eventually joined himself with his father. The consequence of wrong joining is always tragic and fatal. He suffered the consequence by dying with his father.
I regularly counsel those that are about to make marital decisions from this perspective. You are not just joined to the physical look and achievement of your partner, you are also joined to the spirits that they carry. If they carry wrong spirits and ancestral curses, you are automatically joined to it.
Beloved, ensure that you are not joined to idols by wrong association. I want to beg of you to take a stock of people around you carefully dissociate yourself those that have nothing good to contribute to your destiny. Get rid of people that you have wrongly chosen based on your emotions and not your spirit.
