DO NOT YIELD – Part 5: From Sin’s Grip to God’s Grace

Malachi 2:15 AMPC
[15]  And did not God make [you and your wife] one [flesh]? Did not One make you and preserve your spirit alive? And why [did God make you two] one? Because He sought a godly offspring [from your union]. Therefore take heed to yourselves, and let no one deal treacherously and be faithless to the wife of his youth.

Beloved,

Before you marry, you must have learned what it entails to submit to a higher authority so that as a spouse, you will always know when to defer. If your marriage will work, your will must be totally surrendered to God. Once you are totally surrendered, then God can prepare you with structure and equipping for your journey ahead. Once He can fully equip you, then he can trust you with His mandates. To understand why God commanded your marriage to you as a mandate, you must first understand why marriage exists to begin with.  There are both primary and secondary reasons for its existence. Let’s look at primary reasons first:

  • To continue what God started in the Garden of Eden. God made us in His image. Marriage is integral in helping us to truly understand God as love, so that we learn to become more like Him:

Genesis 2:22-23 NKJV
[22] Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. [23] And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.”

  • To show what God can do with Godly homes and godly children. Both Titus 2:6-8 and Malachi 2 demonstrate a pattern of kingdom living. Being part of the family of God has its benefits. It starts with submitting to right structure. This leads to the development of godly character and the equipping of saints and disciples of Christ Jesus, which in turn lead to inheritance. Blessings follow obedience. Inheritance is for sons (1 Corinthians 6). You will enjoy godly revelation of this in Jesus’ mighty name.
  • Finally, a primary and major reason for marriage is surrender. Sacrifice is not easy but true love makes it compulsory. God, Himself, is Love and He sacrificed Himself, literally, for us. He literally came down from glory for our sake, though we did not deserve it. The mandate of marriage requires you to yield your body and desire to God like Mary and Joseph did.

Luke 1:38 NKJV
Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Mary did not fully understand it, but she yielded herself to God’s will for her. You must be ready to do the same, especially as it pertains to marriage.

Now, let’s look at some secondary reasons for marriage, which, sadly, have served as many people’s prime reasons for marriage:

To make parents happy.

  • To feel responsible.
  • To save money by copying or slashing bills.
  • For companionship
  • For sexual relationship.
  • To help each other and to feel appreciated.

The devil loves when we learn and do things out of order. He wants us to get our priorities wrong so that we are unable to produce or become anything tangible enough to be a threat to the kingdom of darkness. Take note of the primary reasons for marriage and treat them as such. Anything else is just an added advantage. Please govern your heart and mindset accordingly.  Next time, I am coming to us with a word especially for the singles. In the meantime, take note of the primary reasons for your marriage mandate as they are God’s ordained reasons.

I commend you to God and to the word of His grace.

I call you blessed. I call you NATIONS.
