1 Kings 19:19 NKJV
So he departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. Then Elijah passed by him and threw his mantle on him.
Beloved,
Yesterday, we introduced Elisha as an example of someone who experienced divine encounter. Today, I want to emphasize the importance of recognizing divine encounter. Elisha was called by God, though not directly. As we stated yesterday, Elisha could have easily missed divine encounter and the call of God upon his life by failing to recognize opportunity through His anointed servant.
I Kings 19:20, NKJV
“And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah, and said, “Please let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?”
Rehab discerned her way into destiny by recognizing the people God sent her way to change her destiny forever. The book of Psalms says this:
Psalm 87:4
“I will record Rahab and Babylon among those who acknowledge me. Behold, Philistia, Tyre, and also Ethiopia: ‘This one was born there.’ “
She and her entire household went from being destined to death to becoming a matriarch in the lineage of our Eternal Life- Giving Christ
Elisha and like Rehab recognized or rightly discerned that this encounter with Elijah and the encounter with Joshua’s spies weren’t ordinary. My prayer is that you will enjoy such discernment. Ask the Lord for it. Spend time in His presence and in scripture. Pray for mercy. Pray for the grace to rightly discern the people, places and assignments God has divinely orchestrated for your training and transformation.
I commend you to God and to the word of His grace.
I call you blessed. I call you NATIONS.
