Acts 2:17-18
“And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, ‘That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy. Your young men shall see visions. Your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants, I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.”
Beloved,
Last time, we established that the outpouring of God’s Spirit upon man is not an ordinary dispensation. It’s not a daily occurrence. Rather, God in His mercy, has ordained seasons of outpouring for release at His convenience and upon whomever He chooses. Think about how we water plants or how we ourselves need and enjoy water. As wonderful as water is, an average plant cannot afford to enjoy the outpouring of gallons and gallons of water. It will drown under the weight of it. As much as humans need water (and many of us need to drink more water), we can only drink so much at a time. If the same water that saves lives can kill a man, imagine the weight of glory that is the Spirit of the Living God. God, in His mercy, governs the outpouring of His Spirit by loving us enough to know how much of His glory we can handle. When He releases an outpouring, it’s to get us to a place where we can now communicate with Him, Spirit to spirit, effectively.
God is a spirit and yes, His word declares that He will “…pour out His spirit on all flesh…”. He does not say how much or long. He only shares that it will come to pass and what the outcome will look like according to our opening scripture. Notice, in that passage, that He uses time to indicate when one should expect such an experience: “…in the last days.” We know from scripture that “the last days” represents an era of full of lies, lawlessness, and much loss by way of famine, war and diseases (2 Timothy 3:1-5). The last days refers to a period that, according to scripture, must take place before Christ’s return. When such a Godless time prevails, God, in His mercy, will pour out His spirit, overtaking any dryness. He will pour our His spirit for everyone who is willing to receive and be saved from the consequences of dryness and Godless nature. We will talk more on this next time.
