Mark 4:35-41 NKJV
On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” [36] Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. [37] And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. [38] But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” [39] Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. [40] But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” [41] And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”
Beloved,
Yesterday, I explained what the storms of life could represent for different people. Characteristics of this season include an observation that what used to work is no more working. You can also observe a loss of appetite for the things of God and for His presence. Feeling of rejection like Elijah felt might be another characteristic while dryness and confusion may characterize the season for others.
When you see needs rising like a stormy wind, it is an indication that the storm of life is here. Also, when the flesh rises above the spirit, it is an indication of a storm. Fear, worry, and anxiety are all characteristics of the season of storms.
The natural response to the season of storms of life include the following:
- Separation: This is the time you do not want to have anything to do with anyone.
- Getting your mind engaged in overwhelming thoughts.
- Silence.
- Reacting instead of responding.
- Living by the dictates of flesh rather than the dictates of the Spirit. The works of the flesh become evident (Galatians 5:19-21).
- Finding succor in what used to work when you were in the world.
- Borrowing.
- None of the aforementioned responses can make you rise above the storms of life. Tomorrow, we will talk about God’s design for overcoming the storms of life.
I commend you to God, and to the word of His grace.
I call you BLESSED. I call you NATIONS.
