John 3:6 NKJV
That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Beloved,
A while back we started to consider the characteristics that make a born-again spirit special (check out part 2 of this devotional here). We looked at what happens at salvation that differentiates the new man from the old man, someone who is saved from those who are not. For a quick recap, we considered key attributes of a born again spirit, including the facts that it has life-giving capacity, the nature of God, the ability to discern good from evil and more. Today, we will look at some more that we need to be aware of to be properly equipped to live the God-kind of life we have been called to live on the earth, and we will discuss a few more today.
- A born again spirit is unlimited and unrestricted, John 3:8 (NKJV, ESV). The scripture referenced makes us understand that the similarity between the wind and a born again spirit is that they both cannot be restricted. Just as you cannot predict the direction of travel of the wind, you can neither predict the move of a resurrected spirit nor limit its workings. It always rises against whoever tries to obstruct its free course, Matthew 21:44. Since it cannot be limited, a born again spirit has limitless possibilities. This is why it is not possible for a believer to be without help. Just as the wind will find its way around any opposition it faces in its path, every born again spirit knows that there is help in Christ for any need that arises.
- A born again spirit receives divine communication. 1 John 2:27 informs us of the importance of godly counsel. While you will always need mentors and fathers to teach you, you must not seek advice on spiritual matters from unbelievers. They might be able to advise on matters of skill, but the Holy Spirit is able to teach you in all things. The only reason why believers are unable to harness this advantage is because they fail to develop their spirits. The Spirit of God is able to communicate with you through interaction with your spirit; this births revelations that your mind interprets to supply practical steps,1 Corinthians 2:6-16.
Next time, we will consider some more characteristics of a born again spirit.
I commend you to God and to the word of His grace.
I call you blessed. I call you NATIONS.
