John 4:7 TLB
Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus asked her for a drink.
Beloved,
Many of our earthly activities are deeply rooted in mystery; one of those is the mysterious way in which God engages us for response. He often beckons in the least expected fashion. Sometimes, He places demands upon us that we would refuse under any other circumstance. It is spiritual discernment, alone, that alerts our spirit man to recognize His voice and respond intelligently to His call.
When God wanted to bless and sustain the widow of Zarephath, He placed a faith-testing demand on her life through His servant. When Jesus desired a “net-breaking catch” for Peter, He placed a demand on his boat. Likewise, Jesus requested a drink from the Samaritan woman. Jesus’ thirst was not that great, but He did desire for the heart of his creation to be turned to Him. To the surprise of the woman, Jesus engaged her in conversation.
Divine demand is a catalyst that stirs reactions in the spirit realm. When God wanted to initiate a prophetic move for Abraham, God demanded he entertain some very special guests. Please learn to recognize when God is placing a demand on you and learn to respond accordingly.
We often miss this as we are focused on the inconvenience of the demand and this causes us to misstep in the execution of the required task God. We must take care to avoid this.
What God asks of us can never be compared to what He desires to give us. Jesus asked for water from the well, and all the while, He was waiting to quench her soul with living water, ending her thirst for all eternity.
Let’s stop placing emphasis on what God requires of us, setting our eyes, instead, on what He wants to give us. Practice your faith intelligently.
I commend you to God and to the word of His grace.
I call you BLESSED. I call you NATIONS.
