DO NOT YIELD – Part 5: From Sin’s Grip to God’s Grace

Romans 6:1-2 MSG
So what do we do? Keep on sinning so God can keep on forgiving? I should hope not! If we’ve left the country where sin is sovereign, how can we still live in our old house there? Or didn’t you realize we packed up and left there for good?

Beloved,
In this series, we have been discussing identifying characteristics of things we tend to hold on to even though God is delivering us from them. Standing as a gatekeeper over your destiny requires an understanding of things that are potentially harmful to your destiny so that you can be well-equipped to guard against them. Otherwise, your efforts to guard your destiny will not be effective. Let’s continue to learn how to identify these things.

They are the things God has warned you about a couple of times, Proverbs 1:20-23. When the voice of wisdom has called a man back from the path he is on several times and he refuses to turn back, it means that he is consciously choosing the path of destruction. Beloved, yield to the voice of wisdom; do not perish.

They are also the things that have crossed over to the permissive will of God, 1 Samuel 8:4-9. The Lord says His Spirit will only strive with man so much, Genesis 6:3. If you pester God enough about an issue and refuse to accept His verdict, it may cross over into His permissive will. This means that you have won and God ceases to speak about the matter; He let’s you have your way. This was the case for the children of Israel. Though it was not God’s will for them to have a king, God eventually granted their request. Similarly, God gave Balaam permission to go with Balak even though He had warned Balaam against cursing those who God had blessed, Numbers 22. You may be able to technically say that God is not opposed to your choice, but He has not blessed it either. The danger of of following such a path is found in Hosea 4:17:

Hosea 4:17 BSB
Ephraim is joined to idols; leave him alone!

The permissive will of God separates men from God’s presence which is what the Devil desires. God’s instruction is the boundary of God’s commitment to you and His protection over you. Anything outside of this brings crisis. Tomorrow, we will discuss the steps we need to take to respond when you notice these things in your life that you need to let go of.

I commend you to God and to the word of His grace.
I call you blessed. I call you NATIONS.
