Genesis 2:24
Therefore, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
Beloved,
Marriage is the coming together of a man and a woman who are willing to become one in order to fulfill the purpose of God for bringing them together. It is a covenant between two matured people who must be willing to forgive ahead, be obedient to God’s instructions and fulfill his purpose for the union. Many problems will be resolved when husband and wife have one purpose they are working towards.
God’s plan for marriage is for the spirits, souls, and bodies of the spouses to become one. The reason for a man to be separated from his parents and to cleave to his wife is for them to become one. It will be naive to think this comes naturally. Becoming one requires a daily commitment of the spouses and agreement to the help of the Holy spirit. The husband and the wife must be intentional in working towards yielding their strength; not holding back; and being quick to forgive and let go of wrongs.
Yielding your strength is loving and supporting each other. It involves doing all you can to help each other fulfill destiny. It is seeking for the best in each other. When husband and wife understand what it means to yield, they will kill self-interest and understand God’s purpose that must be fulfilled. Hence, they will diligently pursue it together without seeking for self-glory. Marriage is designed to eliminate every weakness and take both husband and wife to their peak.
Some action points: examine your union to see which weakness you still carry even after many years of marriage and make amendment. Do you know God’s purpose for your marriage and are you pursuing it? Have you become one with your spouse so much that people cannot tell you apart? There is work to be done my fellow brethren. Let us get to work and may God help us.
