2 Peter 1:5
But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,
Beloved,
Yesterday, we established the fact that faith cannot work alone; it needs some additives for it to stand strong and to effectively deliver what we trust the Lord for to us.
In addition to work, you must add to your faith what the above verse of the scripture calls ‘virtue’. Apostle Peter categorically stated how this additive must be added—by “giving all diligence”. In other words, ensure you diligently (deliberately, consciously and intelligently) add virtue to your faith. Some versions call it goodness, moral excellence, integrity, good character, excellence of character etc. Invariably, add the best of character to your faith. A lot of people are confused with believers that are seemingly sound in their belief in God yet, their way of life completely contradicts their profession of faith. It is so bad that believers sometimes prefer to give their jobs to unbelievers rather than so-called believers who lack integrity.
We must remember that for us as Christians, God does not demand barely good character from us, He demands the best of character from us. Jesus did not say that you should let your light shine, He said “Let your light so shine before men…” (Matthew 5:16). In other words, let your light shine (let your character be excellent) before men in a way and manner that they will be attracted to the kingdom you are representing.
I ask the Lord to help you put a right attitude to life as you keep expressing your faith in Christ. Amen.
I commend you to God, and to the word of His grace.
I call you BLESSED. I call you NATIONS.
