How to Enjoy Them

“You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples…” – Psalm 77:14

As believers, we love to get excited about miracles.  Let’s review the purpose and power of miracles and how to make the most of them.

The first thing you must know if you will enjoy them well,  is that miracles are NOT the  greatest thing God can and desires to give you. As much as they reflect an outpouring of His love, there are greater ways He has to do that for us who are ready to receive. If you are in intimate relationship with Him, you know this, and you know that one of the greatest ways He demonstrates His love to us is through His Word- especially His Word of instruction. Do not get me wring, we praise God for the miracle of life itself. But the gift of eternal life, especially after the fall of man, which caused the need for a thing like miracles to begin with, is greater. Him trusting us with information, secrets and instructions is better. The work He does and desires to do on your heart is better.

The next thing I want us understand about miracles is that they are not an excuse to be and remain an irresponsible Christian. Rather, miracles are gentle reminders of His commitment to us as He uses them to help us carry out His will (Ask Moses in Exodus 14). They are also what God uses to introduce us to new dimensions of Himself (Ask the early church in the book of Acts or any of the 12 disciples).

Right Response (Part 4)

The last one I want to make mention of is that miracles are for those of us who made a decision to follow Christ to use to introduce to God and His loving character and priorities to others. Ask Paul in the book of Acts.

Acts 19:11-12:
“And God was doing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his skin were carried away to the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them..”
While it’s not  ideal that we live on miracles- lest we celebrate the hand of God more than our relationship with Him, miracles did not and should not stop with Apostle Paul.
John 14:12:
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father..”
God, in His mercy is about to do some wonderful things to introduce us to new dimensions of Himself and to us and to remind us of how passionately committed He is to our case. More importantly, He will do some things for and through us so that He can introduce Himself to others. Or better, you can. We will talk more on this next time. Until then, I commend you to God and to the WORD of HIS Grace. I call you blessed and NATIONS.
